“I wish I could describe how much more than "just a picture" a boudoir experience with Bethany O is. It has been about two weeks since we had our session. In that time, I have NOT ONCE looked at myself in the mirror and said those hurtful things to myself that have been on repeat for years. Instead, I’ve looked in the mirror and thought: “Damn, girl. Those jeans look awesome. That top with those jeans look hot. Your hair is perfect today. Your bum looks nice.” I’ve felt empowered, I’ve felt myself be kind to me, I’ve been confident. I’ve been me. If I can say anything about my boudoir shoot with Bethany, it's that it gave me a sense of self that I don’t know that I’ve ever really had. It put my body in context. My body, my shell – is just one part of me. And for what it’s worth – it’s been through some shit. But once you put it all out there (or mostly all out there), you can’t hide from the camera or the person snapping away. You have to trust their eye, their instinct. And was I ever so right in doing so. I will never, ever forget the beautiful gift that you gave to me, Bethany. I will always have your images to look back on, and if I ever have a bad day I’m going to force myself to look at them to remind myself that I’m something else. That I am worthy of loving myself. That I don’t get to say those mean, self-depricating things I’ve been thinking. Boudoir is so much more than just feeling sexy. I can’t adequately express how freeing it was for me. Those few hours with you and your camera did more for me than years of therapy to rewire the way I thought about myself. You gave me, me back. I love you and your gorgeous personality. Your inherent ability to just make people feel comfortable in front of the camera. Your laughter. You shine and others can’t help but shine and glow from your light as well.
